A Stay at Gran Destino Tower: Subtle Disney Magic with a Rooftop View

If you’re looking for a Disney resort experience with just the right balance of grown-up luxury and family-friendly magic, Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort might just surprise you in the best way.

This isn't your Mickey-ear-splashed, Disney-in-your-face-theming kind of place—and honestly, that’s what makes it so special. Instead, the magic is woven in like a whisper. Think elegant touches inspired by the surreal friendship between Walt Disney and Salvador Dalí, paired with rich Spanish-style design. You’ll find nods to Disney history tucked into art, architecture, and little details that make you look twice—but never feel overwhelmed.

Accessibility Note:

The Gran Desitno Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort has 545 rooms on 15 floors, with the 16th floor reserved for the Dahlia Lounge and Toledo Tapas Steak and Seafood restaurant. Accessibility for those with mobility concerns are twofold. Elevators and air conditioned access to food and shopping are provided within the tower itself. The Dig Site, including the pool area, playground, and some food options are accessible, but may be a considerable distance from the Tower.

Let’s Talk Rooms: Comfort + Style

Our room in Gran Destino Tower felt modern and thoughtfully designed, with big windows offering lovely views and beds that were honestly hard to leave in the morning. It’s perfect for couples, but would also work well for multigenerational families who appreciate a little extra space and comfort—especially if you’re the type of grandparent who needs a comfy perch to plan the next day’s adventures.

The Dig Site: Pool, Playground, All the Things!

Map of the Lost CIty of Cibola Dig Site

A short stroll from the tower takes you to the Dig Site, the heart of the resort’s pool area—and wow, is this one a hit with families. At the center of the Lost City of Cibola Dig Site is a massive Mayan-style pyramid with a cascading waterfall. The 123-foot-long waterslide had kids (and more than a few adults) lining up on repeat, and there’s a huge hot tub—reportedly the largest at Walt Disney World—for relaxing after a long park day. The adjacent playground is themed like an archaeological dig, and it’s adorable. There is also a volleyball court, Siesta’s Bar, and the Iguana Arcade.

Dahlia Lounge: Cocktails with a Theme-Parks View

View of Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios from Dahlia Lounge

Now here’s a spot you’ll want to carve out adult time for. Located on the rooftop of Gran Destino, Dahlia Lounge is a quiet, dreamy retreat perfect for sipping sangria or a signature cocktail. The vibe here is modern and a little whimsical—metal dandelions float overhead, and the open-air terrace serves up views that stretch all the way to the fireworks.

Yes, fireworks. On clear nights, you can see fireworks from Hollywood Studios and EPCOT right from the lounge’s patio. Kids are welcome, and the area is mobility device accessible. It can be crowded - but not Main Street crowded! It’s not loud at all, and you don’t have to sprint to grab a good spot. Honestly? It's one of the best low-key fireworks viewing experiences on Disney property.

Accessibility Note:

If a member of your travel party is unable to stand for the fireworks display, plan on arriving to the Dahlia Lounge outdoor patio early to secure a spot near the railing for ECV or wheelchair placement.

Dinner at Toledo: 16th Floor Dining That Delivers

Right next to Dahlia Lounge, you’ll find Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood, and it’s every bit as good as it sounds. With dramatic lighting including a color-changing ceiling(!), and views for days, this restaurant has quickly become a favorite of ours for date nights or special celebrations.

The menu leans Spanish with a mix of small plates and hearty mains. We ordered Chuletón Bone-In Rib-Eye Chef’s dinner for two with Tomate Frito and choice of two House Sides to share (click on the images above for a closer look!). We had a lovely meal and stayed a little longer than we would normally as we realized that the young gentleman at the table next to us was going to propose to his girlfriend. We watched the whole thing play out, excusing himself from the table to give a small box to the server just before dessert, making eye contact with a photographer who was waiting in the entry to the restaurant. By the time he got down on one knee, I think everyone in the place was in on it!

It was a magical evening in more ways than one. There’s something incredibly relaxing about dining somewhere elegant but unpretentious, where you still feel the Disney magic without ever being hit over the head with it.

Final Thoughts

Gran Destino Tower might fly under the radar for some, but for couples, grandparents, or families looking for a blend of modern design, subtle theming, and excellent food and views, it’s a fantastic choice. Whether you’re splashing with the kids at the Dig Site, soaking in the hot tub, or clinking glasses on a rooftop terrace while fireworks light up the sky—you’ll find plenty of magic here. The kind that sticks with you.
